Monday Musings: Start Before You’re Ready

Happy Monday, my dears!

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! I had a very relaxing weekend, but also one with lots of creativity flowing. I’ve had lots of fun ideas whirling about in my head, and it’s nice to finally put these ideas to action.

I went to one of my favorite yoga classes yesterday morning, and the theme of the class was {essentially} “start before you’re ready.”

She told us: Don’t wait for all the planets to align and your situation to be perfect, because it’s never going to happen. Just go for it! What are you waiting for?

This has been a big theme for me this past year. Ever since graduating college, I’ve continued to struggle with this “I’m not ready” or knowledgeable or experienced enough mentality.

When else would I become knowledgable or experienced enough, if I don’t start know?

Teaching my first yoga classes was huge for me. Though I felt confident in my own practice, it was a whole different experience to guide other people’s practices. Having students ask questions, come in with injuries or special needs and conditions were all very challenging and eye-opening for me.

To be honest, these situations really freaked me out. I would question my own ability to teach and if I were good enough to be a yoga teacher based on how I would respond to such cases.

The thing is, I was trained to handle all of that. I have the knowledge of how to modify poses, and I have the ability to learn about different conditions and how to work with those. I just didn’t have the experience of how it felt to actually deal with such things.

The only way to build that experience, is to just start. Go for it. Learn from your mistakes (no, making mistakes will not mean you are inadequate!) and you’ll be better equipped to handle similar situations in the future.

If I don’t start now, when else would I be able to?

Question of the day: What are you doing lately that scares you?

Have a beautiful Monday!
