This coconut oil mask has done wonders for my hair! I have been incorporating it regularly into my hair care routine, and it has made my hair so soft, really decreased frizziness, and in general makes my hair more manageable.
That being said, I was pretty nervous to put oil in my hair and leave it. I tend to have dry hair (and live in dry climates), but I didn’t want my hair to look greasy from the oil. I am happy to report this did not happen, and in-fact has only made my hair much healthier!
Coconut Oil Hair Mask
Step One: clip up the top half of your hair
Step two: Using the bottom half of your hair, take small sections (like 1/2 inch-1 inch of hair) and rub enough oil where your hair feels fully coated. This is usually about 1/4 inch of coconut oil for me, but may be different for you. I start from my scalp and move down my hair, focusing mostly on the ends. Repeat until all of your hair has been covered.
Step three: Comb through hair with fingers, getting the oil fully rubbed in and removing any tangles. Then tie hair up in a bun, or put a shower cap over it. You can wet a small towel with warm water and place that on top of your hair. Or you can just tie it up and leave it. Wait anywhere from 15 minutes to a full hour.
Step Four: Shower, rinse out. I like to shampoo my hair twice, actually, to make sure I get all the oil out. I also do not use conditioner when I’ve done the coconut oil treatment so my hair won’t be too greasy
Step Five: Dry hair as normal. I like to use a cotton T-shirt to dry my hair without making it frizzy.
This is such a simple thing to do, and it really is healing for your hair. If you are like me and live in a dry environment and have dry hair, I highly recommend incorporating this practice. I’m doing this mask weekly, but you could do it twice a week or even once a month depending on what works for you! I also highly recommend doing a hair mask such as this if you use heat products on your hair regularly!
